Albert Mestres Aldavo
Veterinary Surgeon

Mark hails from Kent and qualified from Cambridge University in 1999. He moved to Essex in 2006 having worked extensively throughout the South East and as a resident surgeon in Ireland. In Essex he continued his surgical and orthopaedic work both locally and through a series referring clinics. In 2007 Mark qualified as a RCVS Certified Equine Orthopaedic Surgeon, and he continues to work extensively in equine orthopaedics taking his patients through the diagnostic process and to treatment whether by conservative non-surgical management or through surgical intervention. Mark works very closely with the best farriers, physiotherapists, and osteopaths to provide a complete service to his clients and ensure the best possible outcomes.

As well as his orthopaedic work, Mark works closely with welfare organisations and has consulted on the veterinary management of several large equine centres in the area from The Remus Equine Sanctuary to The Barleylands Equestrian Centre. Mark is one of two Senior Vets at Chelmsford City Racecourse, where he has the privilege of leading vets from all the major equine clinics in the county to ensure the health and safety of the horses that race.

When Mark is not working, he spends most if his time rebuilding his house whilst being run ragged by his dogs; and is very proud to call Essex his home even if strictly speaking he grew up the other side of the Thames estuary.

Albert graduated from the University of Santiago de Compostela in Spain, where he went on to undertake an internship in farm an equine medicine before working in mixed practice and with the Spanish army equine stud herd. Albert moved to Dubai to specialise solely in equine medicine and orthopaedics. During his time in the UAE, he worked with high performance and competition endurance racehorses and the occasional racing camel.

After his time in the desert, Albert came to the UK in 2014 to work in a purely equine practice in Leicestershire, followed by a rotating internship at The Liverpool University Equine Hospital and as an equine assistant at the Royal Veterinary College before joining Murrell Equine. Albert is presently enrolled for the Advanced Certificate in General Equine Practice and the more specific Certificate in Equine Lameness Diagnosis and Therapeutics, his main area of interest.

Outside of work, Albert enjoys running, walks in the countryside and road trips with his campervan.

The Office

Patrick Boyle
Practice Manager

Patrick moved from Northern Ireland some 30 years ago to study computer science in London following which he worked as a consultant for many years, then spent some time in the corporate environment and 10 years consulting with Universities throughout the UK.

Patrick was persuaded to join Murrell Equine in 2018, and coming from a business background immediately recognised the potential at Murrell Equine. He believes that the superior service offered at Murrell Equine should become the industry standard and has single mindedly assembled an office team worthy of the challenge.

He firmly believes that Murrell Equine now have the best Equine Veterinary Surgeons backed up by a team of professional and caring support staff; a winning formula that he intends to offer throughout Essex and beyond.

Outside work Patrick is a wonderfully committed family man and with the addition of a granddaughter he really has his future mapped out.

Kelly Gibson
Office Manager

Kelly is Chelmsford born and bred. She grew up in Broomfield and has lived in the area all her life. Her interest in horses came from early on when she was lucky enough to have her own horse, and the passion has never left her.

Professionally, Kelly developed a wealth of experience in healthcare working as a Healthcare Support Worker at Broomfield Hospital A&E, a role that perfectly suited her incredibly kind and caring manner, prior to moving to equine specific management roles at a series of Essex based equine clinic facilities and at Chelmsford City RaceCourse (CCRC).

When not caring for the clients and the practice staff, Kelly enjoys spending time with her husband and children, going on long walks with her dogs and generally being outdoors.

Sarah Martin

Hi, a little bit about me, I grow up in South Benfleet, Essex, my parents moved out from London when I was a baby, lived in South Benfleet until I was 25 then moved to Billericay for a few years and then finally to Little Baddow, where I have bought up my two teenage children.

Before children and Murrell I worked for 17 years in London within the Banking and Finance sector. I worked for many years for BNP Paribas, Deutsche Bank and Lehman Brothers. Worked for Lehman Brothers in New York for a period of time which was a really good opportunity both career wise and to see New York.

I joined the team at Murrell in May 2019. I am part of the accounts/finance department. I handle the Equine insurance, conversing with the insurance company and client to get the claims sorted as smoothly as possible. I keep track of invoice payments  and are in communications with clients regarding their invoice and dealing with payments or any issues they may have.

My favourite pastime is walking, I love walking through the countryside with my dog and finding a cosy pub at the end of it!. We have a black Labrador, we lost our beloved cocker spaniel last year so a puppy maybe on the horizon!!!

I love the countryside but I do enjoy city breaks too, would love to get a Motorhome and go round the UK visiting all the cities I haven’t been too.

Nurses & Assistants

Georgie Holland
Equine Nurse

Georgie was brought up in Thundersley where she grew up on a riding school surrounded by animals. Unsurprisingly she learned to ride almost before she could walk.

Despite the equine upbringing her first job was in a small animal practice where she quickly developed the bug for nursing. The passion for horses never left her though, and having completed the Writtle Equine Science Course, Georgie progressed to equine and theatre nursing at The Clarendon Equine Clinic in Galleywood where she had the best of both worlds; looking after the inpatients, assisting with surgeries, and picking up lots of practical nursing skills along the way.

Georgie began working in theatre with Mark in 2012. She is an exceptional theatre nurse, and we were delighted that she decided to consult back to Murrell Equine in 2020 during the outset of the COVID outbreak. She continues to be a highly valued member of the team both in theatre, in clinic and on yard visits where she provides any nursing assistance required.

Georgie has a cheeky young warmblood that she is producing herself and who tests her nursing skills every day.

Rhi Boyle
Equine Assistant

Rhi joined Murrell Equine in 2020 helping Mark during the first lockdown. Growing up with horses she has acquired a wealth of experience from racehorses, eventers, and breeding stock not to mention her horse Stripe.

Currently she is in her final year of an Agriculture degree at Writtle and works at Beechwood Equestrian Centre.

She has just had a baby girl “Clodagh” and juggles being a new mum with study and work. Rhi and Stripe enjoy a bit of everything and still compete when they can.

Rosie Buckley
Equine Assistant

Rosie joined Murrell Equine in 2020 helping Mark during the first lockdown.

Rosie always knew she was destined to work with horses and now works at Chelmsford City Racecourse as part of their Screen Team during race days, she can also be seen leading up horses and riding on the gallops.

Rosie’s brings vast experience to Murrell Equine, during her spare time she enjoys spending time with family and friends and her Godolphin ex-racehorse.
